How It Helps On Trail: Feasts are built around the benefits of low carb eating. Protein & fats digest more consistently, giving you steady, sustained energy while feeling full and energized. Skip the blood sugar spike and crash from carb-heavy meals that leave your stomach unhappy.
Who It's For: Backcountry travelers who take food as seriously as gear: thru-hikers, weekend warriors, paddlers, ski tourers, hunters, campers, travelers. Feasts are perfect for anyone eating low-carb, managing diabetes, or just done with trail meals that disappoint.
Why We Built This: Flat Out Feasts were developed by our founder, Lisa, after she was hospitalized and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes partway through a 4,270km Pacific Crest Trail thru-hike. She couldn't find a single backcountry meal that wouldn't send her blood sugar into a rollercoaster, so she created her own. Made in Edmonton, Alberta. 🍁

FAQs
Freeze-Dried vs Dehydrated - What's the Difference?
Freeze-drying is a premium process that removes moisture through sublimation in a vacuum chamber, so the food retains its cell structure, retains ~97% of nutrients, and rehydrates better. Our meals are 100% freeze-dried.
In contrast, dehydration removes moisture through evaporation - basically cooking the water out using heat and air flow. The food shrinks, becomes chewy, doesn't rehydrate as well, and only retains ~60% of nutrients. Learn more.
Why Low Carb?
Protein & fats digest more consistently than carbs, giving you steady, sustained energy while feeling full and energized. In contrast, carb-heavy meals cause your blood sugar and insulin levels to spike very quickly, followed by a crash, leaving you hungry and tired not long after eating. Our Feasts have you feeling full for longer, and help keep your blood sugar steady.
What's the Shelf Life?
We recommend enjoying our meals within 4 years of purchase.

What Makes Our Freeze-Dried Backcountry Meals Different?
Flat Out Feasts are made for people who want real food, serious protein, and dependable fuel after long miles. No compromise, no fluff - just a meal that actually earns its spot in your pack.
Our Story
Six years ago, I was thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, over 4,000km from Mexico to Canada. But partway through, I was hospitalized because my body was literally starving to death. The diagnosis hit hard: Type 1 diabetes.
Suddenly, every ingredient mattered. My body couldn't produce insulin, turning carbs into a dangerous blood sugar rollercoaster. But every backcountry meal on the market was packed with rice, noodles, and potatoes. Food, which once fueled my freedom, became a barrier to the adventures I cherished.
I decided that if no one else was making truly delicious, low-carb freeze-dried meals, then I would. I set out to prove that high-quality, low-carb nutrition wasn't just possible for the trail - it could be a culinary highlight.
Flat Out Feasts was born, and thousands of adventurers who once felt limited find themselves empowered and reclaiming the joy of eating well in the wild. Because adventure shouldn't be limited by what you eat - it should be powered by it.
